Court hears Peel man found with two parcels of drugs

29-year-old has been refused bail and remanded in custody

A man’s been refused bail after a court heard two parcels of drugs addressed to him were found on the same day.

Twenty-nine-year-old Jamie Roy Griffin of Derby Road in Peel appeared before Deputy High Bailiff Christopher Arrowsmith at Douglas courthouse via a live videolink from the Isle of Man Prison.

He’s charged with being unlawfully concerned in the production of ketamine and cannabis and being concerned in supplying cannabis.

Prosecution advocate Hazel Carroon told the court staff at the Island’s sorting office spotted two suspicious parcels addressed to Mr Griffin on 14 January, and called police.

Both packages were opened, and officers found one contained 245 grammes of ketamine with a street value of between £9,800 and almost £12,300.

Inside the other, they discovered 10 pre-rolled joints with an estimated value of £300.

A search of his mobile phone is also said to have uncovered messages about drug dealing over the past 12 months.

Mr Arrowsmith declined to grant a bail application, and Mr Griffin was remanded in custody.

He’s next due to appear on 4 February.
