Covid-19 death toll reaches 84

A further two deaths related to Coronavirus have been confirmed

Two more Covid-19 related deaths have been recorded on the Isle of Man.

They’ve been confirmed in the latest surveillance report published by Public Health.

It brings the total number of Coronavirus related deaths, since the start of the pandemic, to 84.

Meanwhile the report shows the Island’s R-rate has fallen to 0.99 – that’s down from 1.8 the week prior.

A fall in case numbers has also been seen across all age groups with the level, and pattern, of transmission said to be similar to that in the UK.

Public Health says in the absence of new variants of concern it expects to see a plateauing, and subsequent fall, in cases.

That’s due to the current Omicron BA.2 variant passing through the susceptible population.

When the data snapshot, for the report, was taken there were 14 patients in hospital with the virus.

Of those half had had their primary vaccine course and a booster, 21 per cent had had the primary vaccine course and 29 per cent were unvaccinated.
