CRHS' parents told strike planning is on 'worst-case scenario basis'

Headteacher warns school will work 'within limitations presented'

Parents should plan for the possibility that students at Castle Rushen High School will be asked to stay at home next week.

The first of six days of industrial action is due to take place a week today - Wednesday, 30 November - when members of the NASUWT go on strike.

The headteacher of the southern secondary school has written to parents saying not knowing the scale of the industrial action is ‘making it difficult’ to contingency plan.

Keith Winstanley says that means planning is being conducted on a ‘worst-case scenario basis’.

In the letter he writes: “I fully understand the impact that this will have on our young people and families and I appreciate the disruption that will occur.

“I will keep you updated as these arrangements evolve and will communicate to you in the coming weeks regarding the arrangements for later potential strike dates in 2023.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support and understanding.”

He adds the school will do its best to help ‘within the limitations presented’ but anyone whose child  is vulnerable, or unlikely to be able to look after themselves, should email crhsenquiries@sch.im.

A more detailed plan will be shared with parents and carers later this week.
