A new facility may take two or three years

Cummal Mooar will remain in place until a replacement facility is commissioned and ready for service, according to the Department of Health and Social Care.

But bringing a new facility into operation may take two or three years.

Earlier this month, the department held a meeting with Manx Care and Ramsey Town Commissioners to discuss a replacement for the ageing facility that provides services to the north of the Island.

The DHSC says updating the service and establishing demand is a key step towards reaching an agreed delivery model and it intends to request for capital funding next spring.

Minister Claire Christian says the department is determined to ensure people in the north have access to high-quality residential care that meets modern standards.

She adds the engagement marks an important step in shaping a facility that is not only fit for purpose but also future-proofed to support generations to come.
