Data protection supervisor says attitudes changed by high-profile leaks

The Island’s data protection supervisor says high-profile security breaches such as Edward Snowden and Wikileaks have helped his office by highlighting the risks of data security.

 

Next week, Iain McDonald’s annual report about the work his organisation’s carried out over the last year will be laid before Tynwald.

 

He says people’s attitudes towards data protection have changed thanks to headline-grabbing incidents, but there are still challenges ahead.

 

And he says his own personal experience shows people need to be careful when giving out their data:
