Deadline to apply for General Election postal vote approaching

Government urges voters to register with enough time

People who want to vote in next month's General Election by post are being encouraged to leave enough time to apply to do so.

It's one of the options available to those who can't attend the polling station in person.

The closing date for postal vote applications is 16 September for those in the Isle of Man; people in the British Isles have until 10 September and its 1 September for those further afield.

All voters must be on the electoral register if they wish to vote on 24 September - the deadline for registration is 25 August. 

If you cannot cast your vote at a polling station, or in advance by post, you can apply for a proxy vote to have someone vote on your behalf.

Valid reasons include a medical emergency or urgent, required business travel overseas. 

Applications are considered on a case-by-case basis by the electoral registration officer.
