Nigel Godfrey targeted by hateful emails and phone calls after 'display of solidarity'
The Dean of Cathedral Isle of Man has been targeted by hateful messages and phone calls after displaying a Palestinian flag on the cathedral grounds.
Nigel Godfrey says the flag was raised to show solidarity with the civilians caught up in the conflict in Gaza and suffering from starvation.
Within days, however, the flag - one of many artefacts on display in the gardens - was stolen.
Dean Godfrey told Manx Radio he wasn't surprised, and the incident hasn't deterred him from speaking out when he sees injustice:
Reports of widespread starvation in Gaza have made international headlines in recent weeks, with several people reportedly dying from malnutrition this week.
The BBC reports that the total number of malnutrition deaths since the start of the Israel-Hamas war in 2023 has now reached 154 - including 89 children - according to the Hamas-run health ministry.
"I'm completely and utterly horrified, and that's not to belittle what happened on October 7." - Dean Nigel Godfrey
