DEC assessing how to handle budget cuts

The Department of Education and Children is looking at ways it can handle a £4.1million budget reduction.

Announced in the budget this week, the department's budget has been reduced to £90.2million for the 2014/15 year.

Manx Sport and Recreation, regional swimming pools and the Isle of Man Arts Council will soon be transferred into the DEC, whilst other areas have been moved elsewhere.

Professor Ronald Barr, the chief executive officer, says they will be looking at where they can make further cuts - whilst protecting children's education:
