DEFA gifts £30,000 to Beach Buddies

Money to help build online presence and education programme

Thirty thousand pounds has been gifted to Island beach-cleaning charity Beach Buddies by the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture.

The charity has recruited a local force of 7,000 volunteers over the last decade and its board wants to grow its service.

Set to help it continue its work over the next year, the cash will help to establish a 'Litter Hotline' on social media, build a website, and launch an educational programme.

It'll also provide much-needed funds for more bins on beaches, and aid the purchase of a new vehicle.
