DEFA issues rubbish warning

If you’re a business thinking of using bonfire night as the chance to burn some waste – there’s a warning from the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture.

The department says it knows in the past businesses have used November 5 as an opportunity to throw waste onto fires – but says the practice is not acceptable, safe or sustainable.

It warns any firms found burning rubbish could well face criminal prosecution and substantial fines.

For more information on getting rid of waste in a legal and safe way, you can visit the government’s website gov.im/daff
