DEFA Minister: Meat Plant post is 'bridging role'

Barber says action after 'warts and all' audit is ‘imperative’

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture says it is 'unsustainable' to ask for more taxpayers' money to support the meat plant.

Minister Clare Barber has taken up the role as chair of the government owned facility in a 'bridging role'.

It follows a ‘warts and all’ audit which revealed significant issues of concern with how the plant is functioning.

Minister Barber told Manx Radio she doesn’t believe the role should be held by a politician but it’s ‘imperative’ that action is taken to address the problems.
