Risk may be overstated
Claims there are dangerous levels of air pollution at Quarterbridge in Douglas don't paint a full picture - that's according to the Department of Environment, Food, and Agriculture.
Isle of Man Friends of the Earth recently measured the amount of harmful nitrogen dioxide at the busy roundabout using 'absorption tubes' - the results showed levels which broke the EU safety threshold.
Director of Environment, Safety and Health, Bernard Warden, says this method doesn't produce an accurate 'long term' average of pollutants present, and may overstate the risk.
The department ceased monitoring air quality in 2009 after new equipment needed was deemed too expensive - Mr Warden insists no 'worrying trends' had been identified during that time:
