Defendant humbled after disorder

Tobin depressed with substance abuse issues

A Douglas pub had to close after a man started throwing drinking glasses around the bar.

Donal Tobin became agitated after being told by staff at the Old Market Inn that he had had enough to drink.

A short time later, the 41 year-old from Marathon Drive threw a number of glasses and a glass decanter around the pub and also damaged a window panel.

The defendant caused about £400 worth of damage and led to the pub closing early on the evening of January 28, with an estimated loss of takings of £500.

Tobin, who admits causing disorderly behaviour on licensed premises and damaging property, told magistrates he was embarrassed by his actions and apologised.

The court also heard he’d been depressed, had issues with substance abuse and his emotions ranged from anger to tears.

He’s been bailed to appear again in court on June 8 and the case adjourned for a social inquiry report to be prepared.
