The chief officer of the education department is to retire next year.

Graham Kinrade has announced he'll be leaving the role in 2026, having been in charge of the department since 2020.

Education Minister Daphne Caine says he's shown a strong commitment to public service and education.

An open process to appoint a successor will begin in the New Year.
