Shimmins says doing ok not enough
Middle MHK Bill Shimmins says he remains convinced the Isle of Man missed out on a Brexit tourism boom enjoyed by the rest of the British Isles last year.
The matter was discussed at length during Tynwald questions yesterday in the wake of the Cabinet Office passenger survey which showed a drop of just below 9% on 2016.
Department for Enterprise member for Tourism Rob Callister stated the Island was doing as well as it could with the budget it is given.
But Mr Shimmins says that's not good enough.
Department for Enterprise member Rob Callister says there is a big effort to grow tourism outside of the peaks provided by road racing events.
But he says the Island needs to compete on a level playing field to be able to attract more tourists.
