Digital hospital records go live

Move saves 16million sheets of paper

The public can wave goodbye to paper-based medical folders as digital health records go live at Noble's hospital.

Health experts can now access the first patient files uploaded to the new system - it will hold in excess of 100,000 records once completed, replacing the need for 16 million sheets of paper.

Part of the government's digital strategy, the work is being carried out one division at a time by a specialist scanning company.

Minister for Health and Social Care Kate Beercroft says the digitised records cut financial overheads, give instant access and save on clinical time.
