Disabled parking charges not down to DoI, says minister

Council plans criticised

Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne says a decision to start charging disabled people at two Douglas car parks was down solely to the town's local authority. 

He was quizzed on the issue in Tynwald by Onchan MHK David Quirk after Douglas Council announced it would scrap free disabled parking at Chester Street and Drumgold Street.

 

Following public outcry about the plan, the council announced there would be some concessions.

 

Mr Gawne said the changes were down to the corporation, which operated the sites owned by his department.

 

And he added central government shouldn't tell the council how to run itself:
