47-year-old hadn't passed driving test after previous ban
A Douglas man who was caught driving whilst disqualified twice in six weeks has been further banned from the road.
Stephen Rafferty, of Central Promenade, was stopped for speeding at Governor’s Bridge on 6 November – he was doing 51 miles per hour in a 30 zone.
Six weeks later, on 17 December, the 47-year-old was stopped again.
During sentencing, at Douglas Courthouse, Rafferty’s advocate said he believed he’d taken a driving test after being released from prison in the UK after being convicted of driving whilst disqualified.
However the court heard Rafferty only had a provisional licence with his advocate adding: “He’s very poor with paperwork.”
Ordering Rafferty to do 120 hours of community service High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told him: “You’ve suffered the consequences now of that chaotic and reckless approach.”
She also instructed him to work with the probation service for 12 months and disqualified him again from driving for a year and until he’s taken and passed an extended driving test.
Rafferty was also ordered to pay £100 in prosecution costs.
