DoI slams Rally organisers

Cancellation blamed on promoter failings

Government has blamed the events leading to the cancellation of Rally Isle of Man on a 'lack of planning and coordination' and overall 'poor organisation' by its promoters.

Organisers announced the news last night, after several months of uncertainty surrounding the event.

In a statement, the Department of Infrastructure says Rally Isle of Man repeatedly missed deadlines and failed to act on assurances, meaning officials could not be confident it would be run 'safely and competently'.

It goes on to acknowledge the 'big disappointment and frustration' the cancellation will mean for rally fans.

Other future motorsport events, the statement says, will be supported - as long as promoters can demonstrate a commitment to public safety and planning obligations.
