Don't call 111 for vaccine registration until Saturday

'Huge surge in calls' says Ashford

The public are being asked not to call the 111 Covid hotline to register for vaccinations until Saturday.

Government is asking people to delay booking due to an 'unprecedented volume of incoming calls' - some are going unanswered as a result.

This applies to vaccination calls only - those with virus symptoms should continue to report them to the 111 service.

Call handlers are focusing on clinical calls and booking vaccine appointments for those already registered.

Health Minister David Ashford has described the surge in calls, since the circuit break lockdown began, as 'huge'.

He said: "We need to be able to call those people already registered for a vaccination before taking new registrations. We are supplementing resources at 111 and the team will be in a position to take new registrations from Saturday. This will not affect the timing of any vaccinations.

"This is an incredibly busy time – please bear with us while we bring in some necessary changes so that we can continue to offer a high quality service to the public."

The DHSC has stressed the pause won't affect anyone's ability to receive a vaccine.
