Driver pulled over by RPU last night
"Texting and getting behind the wheel is the modern day 21st century equivalent to drink-driving" - according to one senior police inspector.
The Roads Policing Unit arrested a motorist only last night for the offence - who had eyes on a mobile phone, and not on the road.
Anyone caught in the act will be fined £120 as their licence receives four penalty points. In some cases; offenders could face dangerous driving charges.
Police recently purchased new equipment for its unmarked vehicles to catch unsuspecting offenders.
