Local authority says it has used the ideas from young people in the community
Douglas Council has created a 'masterplan' to redevelop the public open space in Pulrose following a consultation with young people in the area.
The local authority says it has 'incorporated' their ideas and feedback as well as those from the wider community.
Its new plan will focus on 'revitalising' green spaces in the area, enhancing play facilities and promoting outdoor wellbeing.
The council has confirmed that more details will be announced in due course but in the meantime hopes to work with the NSC to support fitness and outdoor activity and host a community picnic and 'co-design' event.
It also plans to use the youth feedback to shape the design and procurement of a new 'Pulrose Play Environment', retain the existing Pulrose play area but expand the early-years play equipment and allow 'non-operational' land between Douglas golf course and the sports pitches to begin 'naturalising'.
Chair of the Regeneration and Community Committee Natalie Byron-Teare said: "This is about creating green, accessible and imaginative spaces that serve the people of Pulrose now and into the future.
"We’re particularly pleased to see young people shaping the vision for their own neighbourhood and incorporating the views and suggestions from residents into the plans.
"So far, we have gained feedback from a workshop at Pulrose Youth Club in April which was followed by a Community Day in May. More details will now be worked up for an initiative we are excited about. This is very much a project involving the community, for the community."
