Department is looking to have 32 spaces available to residents and visitors

Douglas Council has objected to a planning application for temporary parking on the former Summerland site.

The local authority says it wouldn't 'optimise' use or be an 'efficient' use of the area and believes it goes against a number of planning objectives.

The application, filed by the Department of Infrastructure, is for use of the site as a 'temporary' car park and could have up room for 32 spaces.

It says the parking would be available to commuters who could walk or cycle into work, visitors using the horse trams and people using the local businesses.

The application will go before the planning committee on Monday, 13 April.
