Local authority and Pulrose United are in negotiations over the site

Douglas Council says it's 'very keen' to find a way for new changing rooms to be provided at Pulrose playing fields.

Pulrose United is currently appealing for help from the community to build new facilities after its former building was condemned and demolished.

The council confirmed it has planning approval for a new building on the site which would accommodate four teams, but costs from tenders were 'much higher' than anticipated.

It added the site could be leased to the 'South Douglas Playing Fields Association' along with a contribution towards the cost of the new building but is waiting to hear from the association.

The playing fields and changing room facility are also used by Douglas Athletic and Douglas and District football clubs.

Away teams are currently using the old police station, but this will be taken away after the clubs were told the council is wanting to use it for social housing.

Despite the potential for a grant from the Football Foundation, along with a 'sizeable' contribution from the council and further funding from Pulrose United, the local authority says it has not yet 'proved possible' to progress the project to the construction stage.

The council added that it will continue to 'explore ways' a new changing room block will be provided.
