Douglas man caught drug-driving is banned

Community service order issued as well

A Douglas man’s been handed a two-year ban after he was caught behind the wheel with twice the UK’s cannabis limit in his bloodstream.

Twenty-six-year-old Omar Benmansour of Fairfield Terrace in Douglas appeared before magistrates for sentencing after pleading guilty to driving whilst unfit.

Prosecution advocate Becky Cubbon said police officers saw him weaving and crossing the centre line as he drove south on 8 December.

They pulled him over at Hillberry at 10.15pm, and could smell cannabis as he got out of his vehicle.

Officers said Benmansour’s eyes were red and glazed, he was unsteady on his feet and he answered their question slowly with slurred speech.

He was arrested and taken to police headquarters, where his blood tested positive for cannabis at high levels.

Magistrates sentenced him to 60 hours of community service, banned from the roads for two years, and ordered him to pay £125 costs.
