Douglas man charged with LFT fraud and possessing indecent images of children

40-year-old also accused of falsifying bank statements and having offensive weapons

A Douglas man accused of fraudulently obtaining Covid tests, possessing indecent images of children and having offensive weapons has appeared in court.

Stephen Joseph Keig of Princes Avenue is charged with making false representations to obtain lateral flow devices from the Isle of Man Government.

He's accused of making genuine orders for lateral flow tests between 15 August and 11 October last year in a bid to make a gain for himself, or to cause a loss to another, contrary to the Fraud Act.

The LFT offences are said to have occurred while he was working as a delivery driver for a courier firm.

The 40-year-old also faces two charges of stealing a total of 427 parcels and their contents, with a value of almost £10,000.

Appearing at Douglas Courthouse charged with a total of 10 offences, he also faces four counts of possessing indecent images of children in August and November last year.

He's also accused of altering or falsifying bank statements submitted to the court, and possessing a baseball bat and knuckleduster in a public place.

Deputy High Bailiff James Brooks granted bail, with conditions including restricted use of internet-enabled devices including laptops and smartphones.

No pleas were entered and proceedings were adjourned until 10 November.
