Douglas sets rates as Ramsey announces rates freeze

Douglas Council meets later today to set the rates for the next year.

The special meeting takes place in the Council Chamber of Douglas Town Hall on Ridgeway Street at 10am.

Councillors will discuss a report from the local authority’s executive committee which met last Thursday, along with the council’s annual budget report.

The meeting comes a day after Braddan commissioners announced they’d be cutting their rate by 6pm in the pound.

Meanwhile, Ramsey Commissioners have announced a rates freeze for the upcoming year.

The town’s board says it will keep its rates at 348p in the pound.

Lead member for finance Richard Radcliffe says the rate will absorb hikes in waste charges imposed by government and increased operating costs at the Northern District civic amenity site.

Mr Radcliffe says a full statement will be made at a public commissioners’ meeting at Ramsey Town Hall at 7pm on Wednesday, February 19.
