Dredged harbour row intensifies

Residents in Peel say they’re angry after dredging work got underway in Peel Harbour this morning (Monday) and trucks carrying silt spilt it on roads through the town.

The Department of Infrastructure is supposed to give 21 days notice before work begins – or it can apply for planning permission to dump the silt near Poortown Quarry.

But this morning, Trevor Cowin – who lives on Derby Road – found a long spill of potentially contaminated mud on the road outside his home.

Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne also spoke about the ongoing operation.
