Drink driver swerved in front of bus while overtaking

Douglas man was three times the legal limit

A Douglas driver who swerved in front of a bus was three times the legal limit after drinking the night before, a court's heard.

Forty-eight-year-old Linus Lange Malangfe of Queens Promenade appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.

He pleaded guilty to one charge of driving while over the limit on the New Castletown Road in Santon and Ballasalla.

Prosecution advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court on 5 August a bus driver called police just before 8am after Malangfe overtook his vehicle.

The driver said Malangfe had cut him up after the overtake, before weaving around the road as he randomly slowed down and accelerated.

The court heard as the bus approached Blackboards Corner, passengers watched as Malangfe's black Honda strayed onto the wrong side of the road.

Alerted by the bus driver, police later found Malangfe in his car and a breath test showed he was three times the legal limit.

Mrs Hughes said it was a serious offence which put the passengers on the bus at risk, and bailed Malangfe in the sum of £500 to appear for sentencing on 6 October.
