Driver freed after heavy goods vehicle overturns

Passerby helped injured driver out of wagon

The driver of a heavy goods vehicle was treated for injuries after his lorry came off the road and crashed on to its side in a nearby field this morning.

Fire and rescue teams from Douglas and Malew were called to the Shoulder Road at South Barrule at 9am.

Upon arrival officers found he had been freed from his wagon. It's understood a passerby, a 17-year-old male, stopped to help.

The driver was then given medical attention by the fire crews before he was seen to by paramedics.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

The fire and rescue service says it's particularly misty today, and is reminding people to drive to the conditions.

Due to damage to the carriageway, the Shoulder Road has temporary signals in place for motorists safety.

This is being managed by the Department of Infrastructure.
