Liam Dunne of Merseyside attempted to evade arrest
A Merseyside man described by police as a pivotal link within the supply chain responsible for trafficking substantial quantities of Class A and B drugs into the Island throughout 2023, has been jailed for twelve years.
Liam Dunne was said to be a significant figure within a Merseyside-based organised crime group.
Dunne's conviction follows two major and complex investigations - Operation Vineyard and Operation Bobcat, which were conducted simultaneously by the Island's Serious and Organised Crime Unit.
The operations have already resulted in a number of individuals receiving lengthy custodial sentences for offences relating to the importation and supply of controlled drugs.
Despite knowing he was wanted by police, Mr Dunne fled the UK to Spain in an attempt to evade arrest. He remained there for several months before being apprehended on his return, and was immediately transported to the Isle of Man.
"Should detailed and complex drug investigations lead us to key UK offenders, we will not hesitate to secure arrest warrants, work alongside UK law enforcement partners, and bring those individuals to the island to face justice.
"It is individuals like Mr Dunne who must be dealt with robustly, otherwise they will continue to exploit our island and profit at the expense of our community. The Isle of Man Constabulary remains fully committed to targeting organised criminality and protecting our borders and our people.”
