Education bill concerns to be raised during Tynwald

Questions for the minister to answer

The draft education bill - which is currently out to public consultation - will come under scrutiny during Tynwald tomorrow (Tues 19).

Garff MHK Daphne Caine wants to know who drafted the bill; which Island individuals or organisations, outside the education department, contributed to the proposed legislation; and how much it has cost to-date.

Onchan MHK Julie Edge also has a question about who the department met with and spoke to during the drafting of the bill.

The document has already come in for criticism from parents, former teachers and politicians alike, while a legal challenge over elements to do with home schooling has been launched.

Mrs Caine says she has concerns about the direction in which things are going.
