Elderly man dies after collision in Peel

85-year-old sustained fatal injuries

Police have confirmed an 85-year-old man who was hit by a car in Peel last week, has died.

Geoffrey Hughes sustained fatal injuries following the collision on Albany Road on Friday (24 November).

It happened at around 6.50pm.

Earlier this week the Isle of Man Constabulary confirmed Mr Hughes had been transferred to a hospital in the UK for treatment.

Inspector Michael Taylor from the Roads Policing Unit said: "Enquiries into this investigation are continuing and we thank the public for their assistance.

“It is clearly evident that Mr Hughes’ passing will affect the local community as he was well known particularly in Peel and also motorcycle circles.

“My sincere condolences are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

“This investigation is ongoing and I would urge people to refrain from speculation as to the circumstances of the collision.

“I can confirm that a person has been interviewed in regard to this matter.

“I would ask the privacy of all is respected at this time."

Police are still appealing for witnesses and dash cam footage - anyone who was in the area between 6.40pm and 6.55pm is asked to contact Police Headquarters.
