Applications unanimously refused by committee
Plans to demolish the Empire Garage showroom, and other buildings in Peel, to make way for new homes have been rejected by the planning committee.
A series of applications were lodged by the owner of the motor trade business earlier this year, but many Peel residents were opposed to the 'overwhelming proposals'.
Under the plans, sites on Marine Parade, Stanley Road, and Cross Street would have been demolished and replaced with 26 flats, and five town houses.
Empire Garage said 'commerical challenges' had pushed the owners to 'exploring development opportunities' at its privately owned sites.
The applications were all unanimously refused by members of the planning committee yesterday (12 August).
