Employers must be 'understanding' after Covid

Phased return to work could help reduce risk of Long Covid

Employers need to show understanding and allow a phased return to work for those recovering from Covid-19.

That's from Home Affairs Minister, and Middle MHK, Jane Poole-Wilson,who previously worked in employment law.

She recently attended a talk on managing a return to normality after dealing with a virus in a bid to avoid post-viral fatigue and Long Covid.

Mrs Poole-Wilson is urging employers to be flexible:

"I wish I'd known nine years ago that post-viral fatigue has this risk of getting a lot worse."

ME, or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, is often compared to Long Covid as it too is classed as a post-viral condition.

Juan Corlett, of ME Support Isle of Man, held the workshop to encourage those getting over the virus to think about the long-term consequences of doing too much, too soon.

It's after he himself suffered from Epstein Barr virus in 2012:

"It might be completely fine to return to your normal job and pattern of work, or it might not be. You need to discuss those reasonable adjustments and agree them before you set foot back into the workplace."
