Engineering course hits the nail with firms

More students sought for September intake

A training course set up to provide the Island's manufacturing sector with the skilled workers needed for growth, has begun to deliver.

Sector firms support and oversee the two-year Foundation Apprenticeship in Engineering course at Isle of Man College - to ensure it fulfills their needs.

Next month, the first batch of 12 maturing students will go straight from college into jobs with Manx companies.

But supply is not yet meeting demand - and the search is on for 36 young people for the September intake, keen to train for a career in engineering.

The sector's skills champion Adrian Harrison tours Island schools and give youngsters a flavour of what engineering and manufacturing are all about: (play audio)
