Confirmed road closures and national service details

Today the Isle of Man comes together to remember all those who have died in the service of their country.

Two minutes' silence will be observed at 11am on both Remembrance Day (Sunday 10 November) and Armistice Day (Monday 11 November), and a number of events are set to take place across the Island.

This year's National Service of Remembrance will take place in St John's this afternoon.

It will be held in the Royal Chapel of St John and at the National War Memorial at 3pm.

The Service will be attended by His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor and Lady Lorimer, alongside representatives of uniformed organisations, charities and various government bodies.

The event is open for the public to attend, and the congregation is requested to be seated no later than 2.45pm.

FURTHER EVENTS

CASTLETOWN

A two-minute silence in remembrance of all those who have died in the service of their country will be observed in the Market Square Castletown at 11am on Sunday and 11am on Monday.

Organisers have requested the 'full co-operation of the public in the observance' and the 'suspension of all vehicular traffic between 11am and 11.02am on the designated days'.

A parade will leave the Town Hall at 9.40am this morning for a 10am service in Arbory St Methodist Church.

Those wishing to take part in the parade should aim to arrive at 9:15am with the parade forming at 09:30am.

This will be followed by the laying of wreaths and the act of remembrance at the war memorial.

COLBY

All welcome to muster in Arbory School car park at 10.15am for a 10.30am parade.

DOUGLAS

Douglas City Council’s annual Service of Remembrance will take place on Sunday 10 November at 10am at St Thomas’ Church before a ceremony at the War Memorial on Douglas Promenade.

A parade will form at Market Hill at 9.15am and depart at 9.20am, led by Douglas Town Band, Standard Bearers, military personnel and Mayor of Douglas Natalie Byron-Teare.

ONCHAN

There will be a short service and wreath laying ceremony at Onchan War Memorial, with a two-minute silence.

Maroons will be fired from The Rec behind the Commissioners' Office at 11am and 11:02am to mark the start and end.

The annual Remembrance Sunday Service will be conducted at St Peter's Church.

PEEL

A number of services will be held in the Cathedral today:

PORT ERIN

Wreath laying at Memorial Hall, Droghadfayle Road, Port Erin at 10am.

Form up straight afterwards for parade led by Rushen Silver Band about 10.10am.

Arrive Rushen Parish Church about 10.40-10.45. Service start 10:50 with welcome, reading names then 2 mins silence at 11.00.

PORT ST MARY

Annual Remembrance Parade will be held on Monday 11 November.

The parade will start at Scoill Phurt Le Moirrey at 10.35am, alternatively, 10.50am at the Garden of Remembrance.

The Albert Hotel Port St Mary have kindly agreed to put on light refreshments after the service.

ROAD CLOSURES

A number of roads across the Island will be shut for Remembrance Day and Armistice Day.

The Department of Infrastructure has published a list of affected roads in Douglas and Ramsey ahead of scheduled remembrance events.

In the north the following roads will be shut between 10am and 1pm on Sunday (10 November):

  • Parliament Street from its junction with Tower Street to its junction with Market Hill and Bourne Place
  • Bourne Place from its junction with Market Hill to its junction with peel Street and Water Street
  • Market Hill from its junction with Bourne Place to its junction with Market Place East
  • Water Street from its junction with Court Row to its junction with Peel Street and Bourne Place
  • Court Row from its junction with Parliament Street to its junction with Water Street

Meanwhile in the capital, a number of roads will be shut on both the Sunday and Monday (11 November).

On Remembrance Sunday:

  • Market Hill from Lord Street to North Quay will be shut from 8.45am until 9.30am
  • Market Street from St Thomas Walk to Church Road Marina will be shut from 9.30am until 11.00am
  • St Thomas Walk from Marina Road to Market Street will be shut from 9.30am until 11am
  • Finch Road from Crellins Hill to Church Road Marina will be shut from 9.30am until 11am
  • Church Road Marina from Finch Road to Market Street will be shut from 9.30am until 11am
  • Church Road Marina from Market Street to Harris Promenade will be shut from 10.30am until 12pm
  • Harris Promenade from its junction with Church Road Marina (Greensills Corner) to Broadway (both carriageways) will be shut from 10.30am until 12pm

On Armistice Day Harris Promenade will be closed from Church Road Marina (Greensills Corner) to Broadway from 10.45am until 11.30am.

Parking is also suspended on Harris Promenade between its junction with Church Road Marina (Greensills Corner) and its junction with Broadway on 10 November between 8am and 12pm and 11 November between 10.45am and 11.30am.
