First public meeting to be held tonight

A high-profile campaign group, with contributors from across the world, is set to gain a Manx branch:

Extinction Rebellion has seen a sharp rise in publicity since its inception in October last year, hitting international headlines with protests staged in many of the world's major cities.

London effectively ground to a halt in April, when activists caused mass traffic disruption in attempts to make UK politicians pay attention to what's been coined the 'climate emergency'.

You heard there from Philippa Tomlinson, who took part in the London demonstrations and has helped form Extinction Rebellion Isle of Man.

The group's first public meeting is tonight, at the Legion Club on Market Hill in Douglas, getting underway from seven o'clock.
