Heysham authorities impose new measures

The introduction of passenger ID checks was taken unilaterally by Port of Heysham police - according to Steam Packet Chief Executive, Mark Woodward.

The move came into force yesterday (Wed), catching some passengers by surprise, but Mr Woodward says he doesn't believe anyone was actually turned away.

Whilst aware of the UK's increased terror threat level, Mr Woodward says Liverpool police haven't notified him of any such change to ID requirements.

The company is also subject to the international ship and port facility security code alert system which hasn't changed, on the advice of the UK authorities.

He says he's not aware how long the new measures introduced by Heysham authorities will stay in place - but if they are extended it could have a knock-on effect for the busy TT period:
