The author of a landmark report, which has highlighted failings in Island  social workers' handling of child care cases, says he expects all his recommendations to be followed up.

Paul Burnett's report found serious flaws in relationships between social service staff and parents - when the welfare of their children was being investigated.

Mr Burnett heard from ten families who'd complained at their treatment by the authorities, and says there's evidence their allegations were well-founded.

The report was commissioned by Tynwald last spring, and this week the court unanimously accepted its findings - and a government action plan to deal with issues raised.  

Seven areas have been earmarked for improvement, including better training and leadership, and the need for improved working practicees by social care  staff. It also says the role of fathers must be recognised and valued.
