Farmers feeling 'severe' effects of extreme weather

Dry weather last year and recent floods have caused damage

The knock-on effects of extreme weather periods over the last 18 months are proving severe for the Island's agriculture sector.

That's the view of Ballakelly farmer Alan Teare.

He says the heavy rainfall this autumn which resulted in flooding across several parts of the Island has really damaged winter crops:

Minister of Environment, Food and Agriculture, Geoffrey Boot, says whilst his department acknowledges the impacts these extreme weather events have on the farming community, the full effects won't be known for some time:
