Huge redevelopment project planned for Liverpool
The Isle of Man Ferry Terminal looks set to be enveloped in a huge redevelopment of the banks of the River Mersey.
The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority is proposing to set up a Mayoral Development Corporation for the Liverpool North Docks area.
This would bring together the powers, partnerships and investment needed to help deliver regeneration to create a ‘vibrant new waterfront neighbourhood for the future’.
This could include up to 17,000 new homes, commercial and employment space, parks and green-spaces and community and cultural facilities.
The first stage of the consultation is to decide whether an MDC is needed and what it should look like.

Mayor of the Liverpool City Region Steve Rotheram said: "We share an ambition to unlock the area’s enormous potential and ensure that this once-in-a-generation opportunity delivers lasting benefits for Liverpool and the wider city region.
"Most importantly we want to ensure that the next chapter of Liverpool’s waterfront is shaped here by the people who know it best."
A consultation document highlights the transformation already underway in the area.
This includes the new Everton stadium, the conversion of the Stanley Dock warehouse complex - Europe’s largest single heritage regeneration project - and the Isle of Man Ferry Terminal.
The final price tag for the Manx taxpayer funded terminal is still unknown due to an ongoing legal dispute.
One former member of the Department of Infrastructure claimed it had exceeded £100 million; it was supposed to cost around £18 million.
