Fewer coronavirus tests per capita here than overseas

Government insists following guidance from Public Health England

The Isle of Man Government maintains it is following Public Health England guidance on coronavirus 'to the letter', despite appearing to be conducting fewer tests than other jurisdictions.

The most recent update says 19 tests have been carried out here thus far - equating to just over 0.02% of the population.

That proportion stands at nearer 0.04% in the UK, almost 0.09% in Jersey and more than 0.12% of the population in Guernsey, which saw its first confirmed positive case yesterday.

Public Health Isle of Man says it tests everyone who fulfills the necessary criteria, including those who have been exposed to someone with a confirmed case of COVID-19.

FIGURES - from Monday 9 March:

Jersey has carried out 84 tests from a population of 97,857 or 0.086% of the population
There have been 81 tests in Guernsey which has a population of 66,697 which is 0.122% of population - 1 positive test
In the Isle of Man there have been 19 tests from a population of approx 85,000 which equates to 0.022% of population
24960 tests have been carried out in the UK tests which has a population of approx 66,400,000 or 0.038% of population - 319 positive tests

That works out as:

Jersey – nearly 4 times the number of tests per head of population compared to the Isle of Man

Guernsey – over 5 times the number of tests per head of population compared to the Isle of Man

UK – nearly twice the number of tests per head of population compared to the Isle of Man
