Fine for driver whose licence expired in 2015

Motorist also had no valid insurance

A man's been fined after he was stopped by police with a driving licence that ran out in 2015.

38-year-old Jamie Alan Grose of Mooragh Promenade in Ramsey pleaded guilty to driving without a valid licence and without insurance.

Magistrates at Douglas Courthouse heard he'd been stopped by police officers on Groves Road in Douglas on 16 February.

Prosecution advocate Richard Butters told the hearing Grose was cooperative, but when he showed his licence it had expired in November 2015.

Grose's advocate told the court he'd misplaced his licence and had sent away for a replacement, but hadn't checked when it ran out.

She explained although he had taken out insurance on the car, the fact he had an expired licence meant his policy wasn't valid.

He was fined £50 for having no driving licence and £400 for having no insurance.

Magistrates also ordered him to pay £50 towards prosecution costs and endorsed his licence with six penalty points.
