Douglas crews responded to incident this morning
The Island's Fire and Rescue Service has issued advice to e-scooter owners after it responded to a property fire this morning (21 July).
Douglas crews were called to a house at 6:45am but the occupants had extinguished the fire before officers arrived.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, but the service says it's important to remember:
DON'T
- Don’t charge e bikes or e scooters in bedrooms or where escape routes could be blocked (e.g. hallways or stairwells)
- Don’t cover chargers or battery packs while charging
- Don’t overload sockets or use damaged extension leads
- Don’t charge or store batteries in direct sunlight
- Don’t charge batteries near combustible materials or hazardous substances
- Don’t attempt to modify or tamper with the battery
DO
- Always unplug the charger once charging is complete
- Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions
- Always use manufacturer approved batteries and chargers
