Firefighters warn flames can spready quickly in dry vegetation

Fire crews say an incident at Stoney Mountain Plantation yesterday could have been much worse.

Officers from Castletown were called to the area after a member of the public discovered the fire.

The Fire and Rescue Service says there was no indication as to how the fire started, and had the flames spread it could have been a serious incident.

Crews are reminding that dry vegetation can ignite and spread quickly, and are urging the public not to light open fires or disposable barbecues in the countryside.
