'Keep clapping instead'
The Island's fire service is asking people not to set off sky lanterns tonight during the weekly 'clap for our carers'.
The plea was prompted by a number of social media campaigns encouraging people to light them in appreciation of those on the frontline.
Fire and Rescue is warning the lanterns could cause fires or kill animals and livestock, adding its resources are already stretched over all areas of emergency services.
In a post on social media, the service urged people, instead, to 'keep on clapping, use pots and pans or even bagpipes if that's your thing!'
