Fire services called out in early hours

Second incident caused by unattended cooking

Fire Services were called out in the early hours of this morning (Thurs 27/12) to deal with a fire in Douglas.

The alarm was raised at 1.20am after a blaze broke out in a flat in Drury Terrace.

Two teams wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze on the fourth floor and checked all occupants had safely left the building.

They remained on the scene for an hour checking for hotspots and ventilating the building.

Officers say it's the second fire in a week believed to have been caused by people forgetting or being distracted from food they were cooking, and both cases highlighted the importance of having working smoke alarms.
