Domestic Abuse Act 2020 came into force in January
The first prosecution under the Island’s new Domestic Abuse Act 2020 has been brought before the Isle of Man Courts of Justice.
Charlotte Rebecca Dougherty, of Ballachrink Drive in Onchan, appeared at Douglas Courthouse today (9 February).
The 40-year-old has been charged with committing a ‘domestic abuse offence’ between 3 and 31 January; she’s also been accused of common assault.
Confirming this was the first time the legislation, which came into force earlier this year, was being put into practice the prosecutor agreed to a two-week adjournment.
There was no application for bail and Magistrates remanded Miss Dougherty at the Isle of Man Prison until 23 February.
