First voyage in 200 years for Peggy

The 200 year old yacht Peggy has been moved this morning (Thurs)

An attempt to crane what's thought to be the earliest example of a British yacht out of the Nautical Museum in Castletown had to be called off yesterday (Wed) because of high winds.

It was thought then another attempt wouldn't be made until next week but Manx National Heritage announced at short notice this morning that a window of suitable weather had appeared and they had decided to go ahead with the operation.

The Peggy will be transported by lorry to a specially bought building at the Cooil where a five year plan to conserve her will get underway.

Director of Manx National Heritage, Edmund Southworth, says they were keen to move her as soon as possible as they've been worried about possible flood damage for some time.
